Dear Readers, When the child is around fourteen weeks, the eyes begin to converge, enabling the child to understand and judge the various objects distance from it, to determine which object is closer. The child tries to move hands and legs to reach nearby objects.
Two to Four Months Child
Place the child on its stomach for short period so that its ability to move the body develops further. Keep the toys and other playing things eight inches away from child so that it can focus.
Four to Six Months Child
The child is able to move from one side to another and co-ordination in between hands and eyes develops further. Make sure that the cradle of the child is transparent so the child look out of the cradle.
Six to Eight Months Child
By the six month the will be able to use both the eyes in co-ordination together. Play any simple games or hide and seek games with the child is very useful in developing child’s visual abilities. Put the ball under the basket and ask the child to locate it.
Play different ball games with child which will be helpful to develop the ability of its eyes. Bring different toys, stuffed animals and objects for the child.
Two to Three Years Child
This is good time to teach the child and make them aware of good visual habits. Prevent the child from harmful pointed things and near-point activities. Make sure that the child does all writing, reading or drawing always in sitting posture, in lighting place and keeping necessary distance between its eyes and the book. Continuously practice child in this regard.
These all habits never form overnight but continue practice makes the things easy for the child.
Three to Five Years Child
In this age the child activity should be balanced. This time is very crucial for the child as it starts learning so many new things and starts going to school. Need to encourage the child to use her/his muscles and make them practice to move their body through space. These all activities makes the child to let them grow up into flexible adult the way of expressing themselves.
Teach the child cleaning habit and resting eyes. Also start them practicing shavasana. Before admitting in school get the eyes of the child examined and after every six months repeat such eye test.
If the child is clumsy, if cannot concentrate on reading, drawing or coloring, if the child thrusts its head forward to look at the object which is in distant place, if the child eyes do not seem straight, if it blinks more, if the child tilts its head one side, if it holds the book to close while reading and writing or if it complains headaches now and then, Watering eyes, these all are the symptoms of visual shortcoming or defect.
An early detection and proper treatment on time bring an end to the visual problem. If parent have visual defect they should be more alert and prevent such kind of any defect in their children.
