Muslims around the world preparing for Ramadan-Ul-Mubarak which is Islamic month. From waking up in the early hours just before dawn for a quick bite and sip of water at the time of Sahr, till the call to prayer at sunset waiting for Iftar.
What is Ramadan-Ul-Mubarak
There are 1.6 billion Muslims in the world believe in the month of Ramadan-Ul-Mubarak the holy book Quran revealed to the prophet Mohammed (Sallallahu Alayhi Wa’Sallam).
As per Islamic calendar Ramadan-Ul-Mubarak is ninth month, or the Hijri calendar based on the lunar cycle. Which started in AD622 when Mohammed (Sallallahu Alayhi Wa’Sallam) migrated from Mecca to Madina.
The month of fasting will end on either Friday 17 July or Saturday 18 July, 29 or 30 days as per lunar month.
Five pillars of Islam, which is Testimony of faith (Reciting Kalma), five times prayer, fasting during the month of ramzan, Zakat(Supporting poor and needy), Hajj the pilgrimage to mecca.
During Ramadan-Ul-Mubarak month all Muslims must fast. A person who fast do not eat or drink any liquid including water between sunrise and sunset 14 to 15 hours. It is obligatory
It is obligatory on all Muslims, who are physically and mentally fit should fast in the month of Ramadan-Ul-Mubarak, except menstruating or seriously ill people. They have to complete all missed fasts, when they come to normal stage.
If permanent ill person who don’t have any hope to get cure have to feed the poor and needy arrange or give food for one person for sehr and iftar in order to compensate. Ramadan-Ul-Mubarak is also a test of patience in refraining from evil actions, bad words and evil thoughts.
Ramadan-Ul-Mubarak is test of demonstrate submission to Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) god. In Ramadan-Ul-Mubarak one should keep the mind and body focused on good deeds and attaining self discipline.
During Ramadan-Ul-Mubarak Muslim perform extra prayers called Tarawih in addition to the five daily prayers. Good action rewards multiplied in this holy month Ramadan-Ul-Mubarak. Do extra prayers, recite Quran, ask for forgiveness to attain paradise through Allah’s mercy.
Ramadan-Ul-Mubarak is the month of worship, don’t waste in sleep. Stay consistence, it’s the month of sharing and month of mercy.
How Muslim Stay While Fast
During fast not only abstaining from food, drink and sex but also actions like smoking, using foul language. And unnecessary gossips about others.
While fasting Muslims can continue their daily routine and usual activities. Fasting is a time for reflection and spiritual recharging, its not a physical ritual.
During fast desires get curbed and one can gain the understanding of those who are less privileged. It increases patience, get close to god and generosity towards others.
Is Fasting Healthy in Scientific Way
Scientists have found if fasting properly controlled can have good health benefits.
During fasting, the body burn fat and set up glucose, which leads to weight lose.
After some days of fasting, higher levels of endorphins (mood related hormones) appear in blood make a person active general mental wellbeing.
Dr Razeen Mahroof an anaesthetist from oxford stated about fasting to NHS: During fasting a detoxification process occurs in body. Toxins stored in the body’s fat are dissolved and removed from the body.
Not only weight loss there are number of other physical and spritual health benefits during fast and five times prayer.
Laylat-Ul-Qadr
During last 10 nights of Ramadan-Ul-Mubarak falls night of power called Laylat-al-Qadr. At that time first verses of Quran revealed to the prophet Mohammed (Sallallahu Alayhi Wa’Sallam).
During Laylat-al-Qadr Muslims do prayer throughout this night to god for mercy, salvation and forgiveness. This is viewed as period when prayers are answered by god and blessings are abundant.
Ramadan-Ul-Mubarak Falls in Different Days in Different Regions
Ramadan-Ul-Mubarak dates different for 1 or 2 days in different regions is due to variation in the sighting of the moon.
In some places due to cloudy weather or any other reason not possible to see the crescent moon. They can start fasting according to the closest place where the moon has been sighted. Some scholars rely on the astronomers calculation.
Zakat in Ramadan-Ul-Mubarak
Meaning of zakat is to ‘cleans’ or ‘purification’. Purifying wealth for the will of Allah(Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala). Its an acknowledgement that everything we own belongs to Allah(Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala).
During Ramadan-Ul-Mubarak Every Muslim need to give Zakat to the poor and needy. Which is 2.5 percent on whole wealth like unused gold and silver, deposits, savings. And also on unused property one year’s total cumulative wealth in order to purify it.
Prophet Mohammed (Sallallahu Alayhi Wa’Sallam) said whoever pays zakat on his wealth will get rid of evil. Zakat is not only purify one’s wealth but also purify sprit and draw that individual closer to the creator Allah(Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala).
Eid-Ul-Fitr
Ramadan-Ul-Mubarak ends when new lunar month starts, the first crescent moon sighted again. Eid-Ul-Fitr is the Islamic holiday marks the end of Ramadan-Ul-Mubarak. On Eid-Ul-Fitr day Muslims need to give Fitra money on per head in the family, which is 3 kg per head wheat or rice or equal amount in cash to the poor and needy before Eid-Ul-Fitr prayer.
